Two new employees at XAOP

This week we are happy to welcome two new talents at Xaop.

Andrew Berth, as a software fanatic, will assist with the development of Cloudring. His obsession with high-quality products and simplicity, together with a good sense for user-friendliness and people, will also help in shaping the views on functionality as well as look and feel.

Evelien Cochez, as a presales business analyst, will help the client to clarify business needs and how these are intertwined, while at the same time keeping in touch with possible software solutions. Evelien combines a broad view in business development with a good sense of people.

Cloudring can search all your apps

Today we released a big update for Cloudring with a lot of cool features :

New BOX.net, Documentum, Alfresco and Nuxeo support

From the first release we have resolved transfer bugs on GoogleDocs, Evernote, Dropbox and SharePoint.
Support for BOX.net is added to Cloudring.

We have tested this release of Cloudring with the following CMIS apps :
Documentum

Nuxeo

Alfresco.

New user interface : file browser

Our new dual pane file system like browser gives you control over your content. ( inspired by the Norton commander style).
You can create new folders, download files or create links that you can send or post to external users.
This is the interface that allows you to transfer files, folders or everything from the app to another app.
Synchronization is activated from this interface as well.(only for Evernote users)

Search all your apps

Find documents in all your connected applications via a personalized federated full text search engine.
This allows you to search not only on the name but also on the content of your documents.

So whether your documents are in Evernote, Dropbox, GoogleDocs, Box.net, SharePoint, Documentum, Alfresco or Nuxeo, you can search them from a single interface.

In the current implementation the indexing is not yet fully automated, you 'll need to manually select your (important) documents and add them to the search engine. In the near future automatic indexing of your apps will be possible.

Virtual apps : saved searches

When you save your search queries, they become available as a filter in the dual pane filebrowser.

As you can see in the screenshot, this effectively creates a "virtual app" within Cloudring containing all documents matching your query.
This gives you control over the search results and topics from all your different applications.
So you can transfer them to a consolidated location.

New homepage design

Interested to test Cloudring ?
Sign up for free and try it out at Cloudring.

Screencasts

Here are some examples :

Nuxeo to GoogleDocs

Documentum to Box

Some pilot testers are using, new advanced group features.

XAOP, one of the Plug & Play - IBBT contest winners!

Last week XAOP participated in the Plug and Play accelerator program of Flanders investment & Trade (FIT) and IBBT.

http://www.ibbt.be/en/istart/our-istart-toolbox/plug-play-tech-center

At
Plug & Play promising technological start-ups can not only find a
home in the heart of Silicon Valley, but also find the introductions,
local market knowledge and support they need to get started up quickly.
This means that the selected start-ups will be able to make use of
financial and practical support for a period of three months.

After
being selected based on an introduction white paper, we presented our
pitch (a ten minute presentation) to an international jury. This was not
without any preparations, for a few days we discussed and brainstormed
on the key messages we wanted to get across.

With
ten graphical slides we explained what XAOP has been doing for the last five years and shared our strategy/plans for 2011 and 2012.

After
the 10 minute Q&A, Stijn and I left the building with mixed
feelings. On the one hand we received recognition for our proven
services and capabilities, but on the other hand we were not sure we convinced them XAOP is Silicon Valley material. But a week later, they
proved us wrong in our doubts and selected us (together with nine other
Belgian companies) for the three month stay in Silicon Valley,
California, America’s start-up heaven!

I
think XAOP’s technology focus on the dynamic programming language Ruby
is a huge advantage in our domain. It allows us to be extremely flexible
and build reliable software fast in an ever changing market.

We look forward to this journey and hopefully we can attend some local Ruby meet-ups in Silicon Valley :-) .
We will keep you updated on our experiences over sea!

2011 will hopefully be another fantastic year for XAOP, with this opportunity we’re definitely off to a good start!

Happy holidays and best wishes from the entire team!

TimeTag: view entries organized by day

We have just updated out TimeTag application with a few new features, the most noticeable of which is the view of your calendar entries by day. You can now finally see what you did each day and if applicable check if you properly filled in your timesheets for the whole day. Other changes include:

Most of the screenshots on the front page are now clickable so you can take a closer look and learn how TimeTag works.

The 'all projects' reports and detailed views now only list active projects (except when the daily view is selected). All inactive projects can be viewed by choosing 'inactive projects'.

A few small interface fixes.

Enjoy!

Documentum Helicopter View Training

XAOP organizes the first Documentum ‘helicopter view’ training on Thursday 28 October 2010.
We have identified the following 5 learning domains for you from understanding the fundamental concepts behind any Documentum project to creating full-featured, easy-to-maintain applications using Documentum.
Each domain contains a narrative recounting how XAOP solved a particular problem or met the needs of a particular client and, in the telling, we will cover all the aspects of the design options and choices.

1. Documentum Architecture Introduction

We cover the content server, different filestores, client configurations, caching, deployment, method server, full text search.
We start this training topic with the setup of a normal content server and present multiple applications and functions built on top of the fundamental core.

2. Understanding Object Relational Data Model Design and Analysis on Documentum

We discuss a series of patterns and design choices and provide the concrete benefits of those design choices.
We explain how to implement change in your data model and how to build an incremental controlled approach.

3. Designing and understanding a Documentum security model

Learning objectives : Authentication models, Users, Groups.
We provide comparisons that illustrate the differences between several security models.
If you are interested you can bring your own (current) security design to compare your company and other companies.

4. Troubleshooting Documentum

Learning objectives : Log files analysis, interpreting, monitoring.
This objective is organized around issues and the actions you need to take to address them.

5. Integration processes on Documentum

Learning objectives : We present arguments against integrations and then rebut them by pointing out the fallacies that underlie them.

Practical information

This Documentum training takes place on Thursday 28 October 2010 from 9.30 till 17.30 hrs at our XAOP office in Halle - Belgium.
What is the cost of this training ? Fee 495 euro
(excl. 21% VAT)
You can subscribe to this training by sending an email to info@xaop.com .

During
the first week of December, the Drug Information Association (DIA)
organizes a conference on ‘European Electronic Document Management’ in
Nice (France). We will introduce the bioscience² concept to the target
audience (life sciences).

Together
with our partner Renascio, XAOP designed the Bioscience² Lightweight
Portal (BLP), a flexible, easily accessible and secure platform. This

New XAOP office

We have moved from the Business Center Zennevallei into our new offices across from the railway station of Halle (Vandenpeereboomstraat 44, 1500 HALLE – Belgium).

We have now officially changed our address.
Next week we will be moving our servers, so you can expect some downtime on our support site.

XAOP has been growing organically since 2005 from a 1 person company to a team of 6 and the office in St-Pieters-Leeuw got too crowded.
It was time to invest in a new office and some decent furniture and infrastructure.
With the help of Dynaset and Kinnarps we defined the optimal office environment, particularly focused on encouraging collaboration and supporting our work processes.
