MirrorNG

MirrorNG is our latest solution in document management. MirrorNG's basic functions include exporting data from and importing data to document management systems such as EMC Documentum, Sharepoint or SAP. These two functions form a solid base for several solutions such as backupping, migrations, archiving, consolidations, exports, ...

The approach we use allows us to move data to and from a running system, assuring uninterrupted availability of the documents and services served by the system. The modular design of MirrorNG ensures that we can easily add adapters for document management systems. At the moment we support EMC Documentum, SharePoint and CMIS. Additionally, MirrorNG is implemented in the Ruby programming language which is hailed for allowing easy implementation of flexible, extensible systems with less effort but with the same level of reliability as systems implemented in the classic implementation languages such as Java and C++.

Some general features of MirrorNG are the following:

• MirrorNG is a crawler. This means that MirrorNG is configured with an initial set of documents, and it will recreate everything in the target system to be able to create those documents. This includes types, folders, users, groups and ACLs, but also VDM components or documents linked through a relation.
• MirrorNG will only create objects that do not already exist. If objects already existed then MirrorNG will not touch them. For folders, types, users, groups, ACLs, etc. It is defined what it means for these objects to already exists, e.g., it is impossible to create two users with the same name. For documents this is not the case, but it is configurable by which attribute a document can be uniquely identified, e.g., by the object_id from the legacy system.

MirrorNG now also features an expanding set of REST-based web services that allow you to integrate with MirrorNG with your own systems and products.

We have built MirrorNG to be a versatile product. Currently, its two incarnations are a backup solution and a migration tool.
